Darryl Atkins World 125 GP Chapionship season didn’t get off to such a good start.
The M J Church Kawasaki rider crashed out in the early practice session on Saturday and was unable to compete in the qualifying races.
His team mate, Talon Vohlands got a bad start and rode hard for his 6th place finish and 15 points for his trouble.
Atkins from New Zealand suffered with a ruptured muscle in his lower back and will rest now until round two of the Championship.
Team Boss Mike Church was satisfied with Talon`s result but said, “I was disappointed for Darryl as he didn’t even get going really, the crash happened early on and he was unable to compete in his heat race.”
There is another Kiwi connection at MJ Church Kawasaki.
New Zealand´s, Paul Trevathan, formally of Jan De Groot factory Kawasaki, is Chief Technician with the team.
The teams next race is Round Two of the championship held on 14 April at Bellpuig in Spain.
