A letter from Katie:
Hey everyone,
Niki remains in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) his progress has slowed and he is now back on the ventilator to give his lungs some relief by giving them fuller breaths. His lungs are still the major worry for the ICU team and he will remain in ICU until he is off the breathing machine and somewhat recovered.
We went and saw the rehabilitation centre today where Niki will see out the remainder of the year. It is a really nice new facility and Niki will have a huge room to himself. By then he will be able to e-mail everyone.
Niki is still somewhat disorientated as a result of the copious amounts of drugs used to keep him asleep for a week, but I assure you the old Niki is still very much there!!!! My ass was a topic for conversation today and his frustration is vented because the three of us are so useless at lip reading.

Sometimes we see some most unfortunate incidents occur and we can do so little to help.
