KAWASAKI TEAM GREEN
Press Release:

Kawasaki Team Green Start Road Race Championships Well:

Timaru’s Johnny Hepburn, leads the charge for Kawasaki Team Green, with a first, third and a fourth on his SPV Kawasaki supported ZX6. The 39 year old used all his experience to hold off his old foes, defending Champion Shaun Harris (New Plymouth) and 2002 Champion Craig Shirriffs (Palmerston North) both on Suzukis in the wet in race two of the New Zealand Road Race Championship on Sunday at Ruapuna Park, just outside Christchurch.

With the onset of atrocious weather conditions, tyre choices became the key factor for the day. Hepburn’s tyre call for the 600 Sports Production Grand Prix, was not the best, leaving him battling for fourth in the driving rain. Other members of Team Green at the Grand Prixs were, Oamaru’s Andy Bolwell, former Formula Three Champion. Bolwell has recently moved up to the Superbike Class and is still coming to grips with his Colin Clyne Motorcycles supported Kawasaki ZX10: Bolwell had a consistent weekend with a 13th and two 15th s in the 21 strong field.

Hamilton’s Carey Brier, who also had a consistent weekend on his Hamilton Motorcycles supported ZX10, with a 15th, 16th and a 19th.

Brier has recently moved up from a 600 ZX6, on which he finished 11th in the championship in 2003/4 after contesting only 10 of the possible 15 races. Brier like Bolwell is still settling in on the bigger machine.

All three are looking forward to next weekend's Round Two in Invercargill.
