British Enduro Championship returns to Scotland

Posted: Sat 26 Nov 2005

The British Enduro Championship will return to Scotland run by Johnny Little and the Grampian Motor Cycle Club on 15th and 16th April, which is the Easter weekend. The proposed date gives competitors the chance to use the long weekend to travel to and from Elgin. The Location is approximately 4 hours north of Edinburgh (200 miles). The picturesque journey through the Scottish Highlands including the whiskey tour route past several distilleries. (Tours should be experienced on the way home obviously). This is the journey that Richard Hay, Derek Little and Ricky Mair have made regularly to compete in each British Championship.

Johnny Little is a well-known figure in British Enduros as a competitor in the seventies and eighties and as the Six Days Enduro Team manager for Scotland. More recently Johnny has accompanied his son Derek to the British Enduro Championship rounds. Several times Scottish Champion Derek has helped with the layout of the track. John and his team will bring in support from the other Scottish Clubs although the timing is to be brought in professionally.

The terrain is sandy therefore the event is not likely to be cancelled due to the weather. One year at a Scottish Championship the sand was so dry the bikes were still immaculate at the finish. Another year there was a downpour for the week before and there was still no problem running the event. The trails are very similar to the Brecklands, Natterjack and the John Banks, close trees and sandy going. There is a short run along the edge of the beach in the dunes and the special test is a good 7 minutes long. John is planning to use Woodside motocross track and the adjacent sand quarry as the motocross test. Over the years this event has been run as a Scottish Championship event that everyone can finish and there is the same intention as a British round. There will be two road sections so all bikes will have to be road registered.

This event will only be possible if John receives more than 150 entries. He would like you to register your intention to compete at this email address bec@scottishenduros.co.uk . The riders who register will be sent out regulations as soon as they are available. This event will be excellent for riders of all abilities including a sportsman class, especially if they treat it as a weekend away in Scotland. There are many bed and breakfast opportunities in the surrounding area Elgin, Lossiemounth, Fochabers etc.

The Grampian Motorcycle Club would like to invite riders from England, Wales, Ireland and beyond to experience a Scottish welcome and a great event.
