Honda Sensation At National MX

Honda Press Release

Honda unleashed a new weapon on the national motocross champs with the performance of Stacey Oldeman.

The talented racer from Te Puke picked up a brand new 2000 model Honda CR250 in just the week before the two-weekend series in the deep south - and blitzed to second outright in the tough 250 class.

On the comeback after a four-year break Oldeman was the talk of the championship, at Gore and Mosgiel.

Castrol Honda\'s young Peter Broxholme took a more conservative approach in the 125 class, riding sensibly on the natural terrain track at Gore for sixth overall.

\"In an excellent field of riders where the top ten are all the same speed, the start determines it all,\" commented the 17-year-old CR125 rider from Tauranga.

But at Mosgiel he fitted a new clutch, aced the starts and won the final event for third overall in the championship.

\"Love that track,\" he enthused. \"I was just two or three points behind the couple of riders ahead of me at the end.

\"I\'m looking forward to some time in Australia in the near future; this is a good step towards it.\"

Castrol Honda teammate Paul Whibley scrambled to a valiant 7th in the 250 title, smashing the front brake caliper from his CR250 in a hectic round one incident.

Whibley, from Pahiatua, borrowed the front fork assembly from the bike of teammate and local Honda dealer Brent Scammell and fought back from ninth after round one.

\"I lost heaps of points at that first round and really my championship was all over then,\" said the disappointed 21-year-old.

Meanwhile Honda was as hot as the blazing conditions at the Auckland ATV champs at Waimauku, dominating both the 2-stroke and 4-stroke classes.

New Zealand\'s international ATV racer Ian Ffitch of Amberley (Canterbury) flew away on his CR250R to win five from five in the 2-stroke section.

And Morrinsville\'s Nick Kampenhout matched the feat for 4-strokes on his Honda 400EX. Honda swept first to third in this category.
